Andrew Gresham
Andrew Gresham is an American oboe player, reedmaker, and a current student of Dr. Margaret Marco at the University of Kansas. His performance career spans across the US. His teachers include Dr. Larry Timm, Jonathan Marzluf, James Ryon, Jack Harel, and Dwight Parry.
For over 15 years, Andrew has been making oboe reeds - only growing in skill and consistency - while studying with some of the finest oboe reedmakers and performers in the business.
In addition to his reed-making, Andrew tutors and offers oboe lessons to the local community and online.
Andrew holds a Master’s degree in Performance from the University of North Texas, a Master’s degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Akron, a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Fullerton and a Performance Certificate from Bowling Green State University.

Andrew attended college as an undergraduate performance major starting in the fall of 2007 at California State University: Fullerton. While at the university, he studied oboe and reedmaking with Dr. Larry Timm, a former “Mack” student, and a former recording artist for large motion-picture companies in Hollywood. In Andrew’s time at CSUF, he performed in both small and large ensembles, chamber groups, masterclasses, and performed 2 solo recitals. He also became well-versed in the performance practices of traditional, contemporary, Baroque, electronic, Eastern influence, and even jazz. As a member of the CSUF Wind Symphony, Andrew toured across Europe in Spring 2011 where he was exposed to a variety of musical styles and various reedmaking techniques, as well as experiencing the vibrant European culture. In 2012, Andrew graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumental Performance from California State University, Fullerton.
In 2012, Andrew auditioned and was accepted into the College of Music at the University of North Texas on scholarship and was offered the principal oboe position in both of the top two major ensembles there, including the highly acclaimed UNT Wind Symphony and the also highly regarded UNT Symphony Orchestra. Andrew studied oboe performance with James Ryon, a graduate of the Juilliard School, an expert in Brazilian music, a student of the former Cleveland Orchestra principal John Mack, and current Principal Oboe of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. While in Texas, Andrew also performed as a soloist and chamber player in a variety of operas, churches, musicals, and other venues in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, including playing oboe and English horn as part of the Madera Woodwind Quintet and a special performance with famed singer Josh Groban. In addition, Andrew spent time learning and performing music on the Baroque oboe and studied Baroque and Classical performance practices with Baroque Orchestra director and recorder virtuoso Dr. Paul Leenhouts. At the end of his studies at UNT, Andrew received his Master of Music in Instrumental Performance with a concentration in Early Music Studies in Spring 2016.
In the same year 2016, Andrew was offered a graduate teaching assistant position to study at the University of Akron with Jack Harel, a virtuoso who studied with the highly praised pedagogue John DeLancie and William Bennett. While at the University of Akron, Andrew studied music theory and composition and had two of his compositions premiered, the first a contemporary oboe solo titled Lunar Shadow, and the second a woodwind quintet titled Dispositions. Andrew also published a thesis paper studying the music of British composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Finally, Andrew completed my degree and graduated from the University of Akron in Spring 2019 with a second master’s degree in Music Theory and Composition.
As of 2024, Andrew has completed a Performance Certificate at Bowling Green State University studying with famed oboist and Principal of the Cincinnati Symphony, Dwight Parry.
Among his long-term professional playing roles, Andrew was appointed 2nd oboe in Ohio’s Tuscarawas Philharmonic, a professional orchestra based in New Philadelphia, OH while studying at the University of Akron. Andrew has also performed with the Corona Symphony Orchestra, Sarang Community Church Orchestra, Nouveau Dance Company, Wild Rivers Symphony, Inland Valley Symphony, Laguna Winds, and others.
Andrew is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Kansas studying with Dr. Margaret Marco.
